THE MOST AWFUL THING (pp. 115, 116)

 

While I'm licking the last of the ice cream, I hear someone at the next table say, "Being a conjoined twin must be the worst thing in the world."

And no one laughs because it wasn't meant as a joke. Merely as something immensely sad and immensely true.

But I could list a hundred things worse than living with Tippa, worse than living in this body, and being who I've always been.

I could list a thousand things worse than this.

A million.

If only someone asked me.
